“Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, President Bush’s nemesis”
This is from a CNN.com article reporting that some Alaskans are refusing free oil from a petroleum company owned by Chavez, because he called Bush “the devil”.
Okay, whatever. I’m hung up on NEMESIS. Chavez is Bush’s NEMESIS? As Moriarty is to Holmes, so Chavez is to Bush. I skipped over to dictionary.com and checked out the definition:
1. something that a person cannot conquer, achieve, etc.: The performance test proved to be my nemesis.
2. an opponent or rival whom a person cannot best or overcome.
3. (initial capital letter) Classical Mythology. the goddess of divine retribution.
4. an agent or act of retribution or punishment.
Really? Nemesis? Isn’t that a little over-dramatic? Is Bush worthy of a nemesis? Then again…
“Over the past two years, Citgo, the Venezuelan government’s Texas-based oil subsidiary, has given millions of gallons of discounted heating oil to the poor in several states and cities — including New York, Connecticut, Vermont, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Maine — in what is widely seen as an effort by Chavez to embarrass and irritate the U.S. government and make himself look good.”
That is nemesis-like behavior. That bastard! He’s giving cheap oil to our poor to make Bush look bad. Also, don’t you love reading that something is anonymously “widely believed”? Believed by whom? Bush’s staff? The UN? ((JUNK WRITING)) Oh, wait–here’s one:
“A spokesman for Gov. Frank Murkowski, John Manly, said the governor believes Chavez’s donation is a ploy to undermine Americans’ faith in their government. But he said it is up to each village to make its own decision.”
So it’s widely believed…by this man.
Who gives a shit? Poor people are getting oil at better prices, Bush gets a nemesis, sounds win-win to me.
